SURNAMES: FISTER, HOOVER, WITTERS, DEBO
I am so excited to find this site!!
I have just begun researching my husband's ancestors and was not having too much luck. His ggg grand- parents were John Hoover and Maria "Betsy" Debo. His name is David Fister, his father's name is Harvey, and Grandfather was John Fister (1870-1936). I was wondering if anyone has any info on John Fister (1837-1876) Who married Eliza Jane Hoover. I would like information on his parents. A sister-in-law says she thinks his parents were Abraham Feister(sp?) and Elizabeth--?? Also looking for info on Mary Ann Witters who married George Washington Hoover.
My name is Mary Fister. E-mail me at morwenna@pacbell.net

SURNAMES: RE: FISTER, FEISTER, HOOVER, WITTERS, DEBO
Dear Mary, it is a pleasure to hear from you. I am so glad you found my site. Yes, indeed your husband is a cousin of mine, as I am very familiar with the surname FISTER. My great great grandfather's brother George Washington HOOVER did have a daughter, Eliza Jane, who married John Sharp FISTER (b.abt 1832). My research does indicate that John S. FISTER's father was indeed Abraham FEISTER abt. 1793 in PA, and mother was Elizabeth Weyland or Wylan (b. abt 1794 in PA). I would be happy to share what I have on this family if you will contact me again at my e-mail address. I can also give you what I have on George Washington HOOVER and his wife Mary Ann WIITERS, which includes some information I obtained from military pension records for their two sons (and brothers of Eliza Jane) Henry D., and John Debo HOOVER. My name is Richard L. Hoover. E-mail me at HooverRich@aol.com

J. M. FEISTER, a citizen of Peabody, and proprietor of the Commercial Hotel, came to this locality in the spring of 1878, and purchased the Commercial Hotel property, which was then partially completed, and he finished it, and has since been sole owner and manager of the hotel. He was born in Lancaster County, Penn., December 17, 1813. He lived in various parts of the State for fifty-odd years, during which time he learned the tailoring trade, and also engaged in the hotel and general merchandise business at various times, and in 1843 was married to Miss Sarah Erwine. They have six children, of whom three are still living. In 1864, he removed to Griggsville, Pike Co., Ill., where he followed the hotel-keeping and merchandising for fourteen years, although he will soon have passed his three score years and ten. Mr. Feister is still hale and hearty, and contemplates soon resigning the busy cares of life, to spend the remainder of his days in the ease and luxury that a hard earned competency will allow him.

Following is a list, compiled as accurately as information available up to December 7, 1945, permitted, of Luzerne County residents and former residents who were reported during the years, from December 7, 1941, to December 1, 1945, as casualties while serving with the United States armed forces. The list is intended to be comprehensive, including names published in the 1944 and 1945 issues of the Record Almanac, with corrections made possible by government casualty lists issued since December 7, 1944.
The following list includes names of those killed in action, those who died of wounds, accidents or disease, those missing in action, prisoners of war and prisoners officially announced as liberated during the year ending December 7, 1945. Under the designation "missing" are some names which probably will be reclassified in government casualty lists issued subsequently to December 7, 1945. Sometimes a person listed as missing in action subsequently turns up sound, or injured in a hospital, or is found to have been killed.
